EUNAVFOR MED Commander in the area of operations

This week the Operation Commander, Rear Admiral (UH) Enrico Credendino, joined the units in the area of operations for few days.

On monday 4 august, accompanied by the Force Commander, Rear Admiral (LH) Andrea Gueglio, visited the Luxemburg Seagull Merlin III aircraft detachment in the Forward Operational Base (FOB), located in Sigonella (Sicily).

The Luxembourgian staff is composed by 6 member staff – two pilots, a flight operator, a mission communicator expert, a ground communicator and a flight technician specialist who joined EUNAVFOR MED area of operations on July the 17th .

The day after, the Operation Commander was on board of the German ship Schleswig-Holstein, after her first month of activities which led to the full operational capability.

On board he attended an awareness briefing about the ship capability and the operational activities carried out during this period of her patrolling and reconnaissance assignment within the European mission.

Finally, on the way back to Rome, Admiral Credendino paid a short stop in Malta where he met the Commander of Malta Armed Forces (AFM), Brigadier Jeffrey Curmi, and Mr. Robert K. Visser, Executive Director of the European Asylum Support Office (EASO).

Before leaving the island he had the chance to visit also the UK EUNAVFOR MED unit, HMS Enterprise, moored in La Valletta harbour.
