Sigonella: the EUNAVFOR MED Force Commander visits the Spanish Air force contingent
On October 4 2015, in Sigonella (Sicily), the Force Commander, Rear Admiral (LH) Andrea Gueglio, paid a visit to the Spanish Air Force contingent currently operating within the EU Mission launched on 22 june 2015 to counter the trafficking and smuggling of humans in the Southern Central Mediterranean.
Admiral Gueglio, after having been illustrated in details about the means and capabilities of the detachment, took personally part in a flight mission on the P3 airplane.
During the flight, followed by an inclusive de – briefing, the Force Commander verified the qualified contribution EUNAVFOR MED is provided by this small but fully professional contingent.
The Spanish detachment, renamed as “destacamento Grappa”, has been operating since last 13 September with the aim of collecting intelligence, reconnaissance and rescue at sea.
